Locals Go Green!!! – SLH Garden Competition Winners 2023.

1st Place Wiiner

This year’s South Lakes Housing (SLH) Garden Competition has been a roaring success, with some truly amazing gardens around the local neighbourhood and extremely passionate tenants creating some truly beautiful ‘green’ and environmentally friendly gardens.

A “BIG THANK YOU” to everyone who entered the competition!

The winners were announced earlier in the week, with Cath Purdy, Chief Executive of South Lakes Housing, visiting the gardens to personally meet the green-fingered winners and present the prizes.

Cath said, “I was very impressed with the standard of the winning gardens – not just the beautiful plants and flowers, but the clear link with environmental sustainability, from bio-diversity to home grown vegetables – both impressive and inspiring! Congratulations to the winners and to all who entered the competition and for making their gardens and communities a joy for everyone who lives around them.”

THE WINNERS:

1st place – Jane Binns (pictured above with SLH colleagues receiving her £250 first prize voucher) – The judges said “A real ‘wow’ garden with so much going on in a compact area. A very wildlife friendly garden with lots of pollinator plants, bird feeders and even a hedgehog home”.

Jane commented: ”I’m very passionate about my garden and the beneficial effects it can have on myself and the local wildlife. I really enjoyed entering the competition and am thrilled that I did so well.’’

Huge thanks to Dyson Energy Services for donating a £250 voucher!

Not only does Michael look after his own garden but takes great pleasure in tending the communal areas at Tyson Square for the pleasure of others, hats off to your dedication’.

Michael commented, ‘Thank you for the prize, I enjoy gardening a lot and I hope to use my prize to but a new hose for the benefit of us all at Tyson Square’.

A “BIG THANK YOU” also to all those entries that received a ‘£25 voucher’ (some of which are pictured above) for the incredible time and effort you put into your gardens; it shows.
