South Lakes Housing (SLH) is an independent, not-for-profit housing association established in March 2012. SLH is the largest provider of affordable rented housing in South Lakeland, Cumbria managing over 3,000 homes and has plans to build over 300 new homes over the next few years. SLH holds the highest grading’s for ‘governance and viability’ from the Regulator of Social Housing (RSH).
SLH was formed in 2012 following a large scale voluntary transfer of homes from South Lakeland District Council having previously managed the stock as an Arms Length Management Organisation since 2004. The company has successfully completed a £54M improvement programme in March 2017 which formed part of the ‘promises’ made to tenants prior to the transfer of homes. By 2020 SLH will be providing quality homes and services across a range of tenures and will have contributed significantly to providing homes that are needed in the South Lakes area and beyond. It will be efficiently run and have the people, processes and culture that ensures sustainable good customer relationships. SLH will be recognised as a valuable social business, operating for social good. It will be valued as a key partner within South Cumbria and will have effective links with Local Government, Health, and the business community. How we deliver and procure our activities will contribute to local economic sustainability.
The Board agreed a Business Strategy in June 2016. The Business Strategy 2016-20 responds to the challenges in the external operating environment whilst pursuing the following objectives;
- Providing good and cost effective management of our properties
- Increasing our portfolio
- Developing commercial and partnership opportunities
- Improving the running of our business
