22 New Affordable Homes at Solway Drive, Walney Island

South Lakes Housing is delighted to be progressing our first scheme in Barrow, and developing 22 new high-quality family homes on Walney Island for affordable rent and shared ownership, for the benefit of local people.

This is an exciting development that we hope is the first of many future schemes of quality homes in the area and will help to increase the provision of high calibre housing in the North. This latest development makes an additional contribution to our target of 500 additional homes delivered or started by 2025.

We are also pleased to be working again with local Barrow-based contractor Leck Construction, who recently also helped us complete the successful residential conversion of the former Town Hall building at Ulverston.

Andrew Murphy, Construction Director at Leck Construction said, “ Leck Construction Ltd are delighted to be working with South Lakes Housing association to design and deliver 22 houses affordable houses at the Solway Drive North site on Walney Island, Barrow in Furness site. We have been working closely with South Lakes housing and have just completed the £2.1 million, Conversion of Ulverston Town Hall into 17 affordable apartments.

Leck Construction Ltd is based in Barrow In Furness, and have over 80 years’ experience constructing houses for private and public clients, and has built its reputation on providing quality design and build service, that uses local operatives and provides value and flexibility for its clients, and we are proud to have the highest quality A rating by the NHBC (National House Building Council ) for a medium-sized company.”

The properties include 4 bungalows and 18 houses and are either semi-detached or link-detached, 6 of which will come with an attached garage. There will be 6 homes available through Affordable Rent, 2 homes through Rent to Buy and 14 homes will be available for purchase via Shared Ownership. This development is expected to be completed by July 2021.

Funding has been provided by South Lakes Housing with additional affordable housing support from Homes England to help us deliver the project.
