At South Lakes Housing we undertake stock condition surveys of our homes at least every five years; to check our homes are safe and secure and meet the Government’s Decent Homes Standard.

What does a stock condition survey involve?
A Surveyor will conduct a visual inspection of all the key areas inside and outside your home. This includes checking items such as your kitchen, bathroom, windows, doors, external walls and roof. We will also access your loft space to measure the insulation to ensure that your home is correctly insulated.
We will take photographs of the main items within your home (such as bathroom, kitchen, boiler, etc.) and any identify any hazards that may need urgent attention.
As this is a visual inspection, we will not move any items in your home, and we will not ask you to move any furniture.
How long will the survey take?
The survey should take no more than 45 minutes to complete.
Will I need to be home when the Stock Condition Survey is carried out?
Yes. We’ll need to check inside your home as well as outside, so please make sure you’re at home when we visit.
Who will carry out the stock condition survey?
We have a team of in-house Surveyors who carry out our stock condition surveys. All SLH representatives carry identification cards, and we encourage you to ask to see this before allowing anyone into your home.

How will I know when my stock condition survey is due?
We will write to you to arrange a suitable appointment to carry out the survey.
If the appointment you have been provided isn’t convenient, you can contact South Lakes Housing direct on 0300 303 8540 between 8.45am to 5pm Monday to Friday to arrange an alternative appointment.
There is nothing wrong with my house – I don’t think I need a Stock Condition Survey.
Regardless of whether your home is well maintained, as a landlord, we are required to survey all our homes every five years to ensure that we can keep our records up to date and to help us to plan future investment in all of our homes so that they meet the Decent Homes Standard.
