SLH Signs LGBTQ+ Housing Pledge to Support Inclusive Communities

South Lakes Housing (SLH) is proud to share that we’ve signed the LGBTQ+ Housing Pledge, a commitment to making our homes and services more inclusive, respectful, and welcoming for everyone.

This pledge is part of our ongoing work to ensure that all residents—regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity—feel safe, supported, and valued in their homes and communities.

What Does the Pledge Mean for You?

By signing the pledge, SLH is taking clear steps to:

  • Protect against discrimination and promote fairness in all housing services.
  • Train our staff to understand and support LGBTQ+ residents better.
  • Listen to your experiences and involve you in shaping inclusive policies.
  • Support resident-led groups like Rainbow Roofs, which meet regularly to share ideas and drive positive change.

Looking Ahead

We’re aiming to become the first housing provider in Cumbria to achieve “Pledge Pioneer” status—recognising organisations that go above and beyond in supporting LGBTQ+ inclusion.

Earlier this year we attended Kendal Pride (13th-15th June) to show our support and celebrate diversity in our community.

David Foxcroft, Head of Customer Experience at SLH, shared:

“Signing the LGBTQ+ Housing Pledge is more than a symbolic gesture—it’s a meaningful step in our mission to ensure every resident feels safe, respected, and heard. We’re proud to be on the path toward ‘Pledge Pioneer’ status and hope to lead by example in Cumbria and beyond.”

Why It Matters

Everyone deserves to feel safe and respected in their home. This pledge is one of many ways SLH is working to build stronger, more inclusive communities—where everyone can thrive.
