Over the last few years we have successfully built new homes across the Lake District, South Lakeland and North Lancaster which included key areas such as Kendal, Ulverston and over to Barrow and in those small rural communities such as Grange-Over-Sands.
Tantabank Gardens, Dalton-in-Furness
South Lakes Housing has delivered four new homes at Tantabank Gardens in Dalton-in-Furness, providing high-quality affordable housing for local people.
The homes have been designed to provide modern, comfortable living in a well-located setting, with strong links to nearby towns including Barrow and Ulverston.
Meadow Rigg, Kendal
Meadow Rigg is on the edge of Kendal, and has been delivered in partnership with Genesis. South Lakes Housing has delivered a total of 26 affordable homes across Phases 1 and 2 of the development, including a mix of houses for Affordable Rent and Shared Ownership. The homes are built to modern standards and form part of a wider mixed‑tenure community, helping to meet local housing need in the area.
Pant Lane, Austwick
At Pant Lane in Austwick, South Lakes Housing has provided two affordable homes in partnership with Venturi Homes. The two‑bedroom houses were delivered as part of a small rural development within the Yorkshire Dales National Park and form part of the site’s Section 106 affordable housing provision. The homes help support local housing need in a village where opportunities for affordable housing are limited.
Brigsteer Rise, Kendal
Brigsteer Rise is a high‑quality affordable housing development delivered in partnership with Story Homes, just outside Kendal town centre. In total, 14 affordable homes have been delivered with South Lakes Housing, providing a mix of one‑bedroom apartments and two‑ and three‑bedroom houses for Affordable Rent and Shared Ownership. The homes are built to modern, energy‑efficient standards and are integrated within a wider mixed‑tenure community, helping meet local housing need in the area.
Kellet Gardens, Over Kellet
South Lakes Housing have acquired 17 properties on this fantastic development by Oakmere Homes. Located in the idyllic village of Over Kellet – close to Carnforth and easy access to the M6.
Boarbank Lane, Allithwaite
South Lakes Housing has delivered two new homes at Boarbank Lane in Allithwaite, providing high-quality affordable housing for local people. The development comprises two affordable rent bungalows, designed to support residents with specific housing needs.
The homes have been thoughtfully designed with accessible features, including wet rooms and adaptations to support independent living, creating comfortable and practical homes in a village setting.

Tyson Square, Ulverston
South Lakes Housing has delivered two new homes at Tyson Square in Ulverston through the conversion of an existing property, providing high-quality affordable housing for local people. The development comprises two one-bedroom social rent flats within a sheltered housing scheme, supporting independent living.
Lots Road, Askham-in-Furness
South Lakes Housing has delivered a total of six new homes at Lots Road in Askam-in-Furness, providing high-quality affordable housing for local people. The development comprises affordable rent homes, supporting households to access secure and affordable accommodation.

Stonecross Meadows, Kendal
South Lakes Housing has delivered eight new homes at Stonecross Meadows in Kendal, providing high-quality affordable housing for local people. The development comprises of eight shared ownership homes, supporting local households to take their first step onto the property ladder.

South Lakes Housing has delivered 22 new homes at Lund Farm, Ulverston, providing high-quality affordable housing for local people. The development comprises a mix of 12 affordable rent homes and 10 shared ownership properties, supporting a range of households to access a home suited to their needs.
The homes have been thoughtfully designed to complement the surrounding area and provide a well-connected, sustainable place to live, close to local amenities and transport links.

Levens View, Ulverston
South Lakes Housing acquired 8 homes on this stunning development by Rowland Homes. Located on the edge of the historic market town of Ulverston, this development offers access to the town’s amenities while being surrounded by attractive scenery. All the homes come with off road parking and private gardens.
Located in southern Cumbria close to both Morecambe Bay and the Lake District, Ulverston is a delightful, bustling and attractive historic market town. Ideally located less than a mile and a half from Ulverston town centre.
Warton Grange Close
South Lakes Housing are proud to have completed 3 affordable homes on this small but stunning development by local company L & W Wilson. Set in the tranquil village of Warton, this development offers access to the beautiful scenery on your doorstep while being just a short drive from the M6 motorway.
There are a mix of 2 x 1 bedroom houses and 1 x 2 bedroom house for rent which have all been allocated. All homes feature:
- Allocated parking
- Downstairs cloakroom
- Lounge-diner with patio doors to a private garden
Passivhaus, Lune Walk, Halton, Lancaster
South Lakes Housing in partnership with the Lune Valley Community Land Trust is delighted to have completed our first Passivhaus Standard scheme that had created 20 new affordable homes in Halton, Lancaster.
These high-quality homes have been built to exceptionally low-energy Passivhaus standard, helping to cut carbon emissions and reduce fuel poverty for residents. Passivhaus homes are built with meticulous attention to detail, rigorous design and construction according to principles developed by the Passivhaus Institute in Germany. These homes generally need 90% less energy for heating and hot water than standard buildings meaning that running costs are very low.
The houses have been constructed using airtight building fabric and will have high-performance windows and doors with insulated frames.
The project has been funded by South Lakes Housing, Lancaster City Council and Homes England and we worked in partnership to deliver these new homes with R P Tyson Construction, John Gilbert Architects, R G Parkins and Partners and Elliott Associates to deliver the homes.
Ghyll Manor, Kendal
South Lakes Housing offered 17 properties on this fantastic development by Oakmere. Located on Underbarrow Road, Kendal, these homes will be perfectly situated for access to both local amenities and stunning walks across Cunswick Scar and Scout Scar.
There were options for both Shared Ownership and affordable rent.
The properties consisted of a mix of 1 bed, 2 bed and 3 bed homes, all benefiting from private gardens and off-road parking.
Forge Weir View, Halton
South Lakes housing offered affordable housing on this new development by Wrenman Homes. This development is set in the historic village of Halton, located on the banks of the River Lune just 3 miles from Lancaster and with easy access to the M6
4 x 1 bed flats were available for rent.

Oakfield Park, Kirkby Lonsdale
This development of 78 homes by Russell Armer, is located on the edge of Kirkby Lonsdale with easy access to the local amenities. On the second phase of this development, South Lakes Housing had 14 properties to offer, 6 for purchase via shared ownership and 8 for affordable rent. All come with private gardens and parking for 2 vehicles.
All properties for this development have now been allocated.
Awarded top place in The Sunday Times’ ˜Best Places to Live 2019‘ (North West), Kirkby Lonsdale is a picturesque market town on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. With beautiful walks and easy access to the Lake District, Yorkshire Dales and the Forest of Bowland, Kirkby Lonsdale is a very desirable place to live.
The town itself has a thriving community with excellent amenities including, restaurants, shops, a supermarket, and primary and secondary schools. A charter market and farmers’ market run every Thursday and the town hosts several festivals throughout the year.
Solway Drive, Walney Island
South Lakes Housing offered 22 properties on this development by Leck Construction. 6 will be available through Affordable Rent, 2 through Rent to Buy and 14 will be available for purchase via Shared Ownership. This development was completed in July 2021. South Lakes Housing has received funding from Homes England for this development.

Rent to Buy
- 2 x 3 bedroom houses
Rent to Buy is a government designed scheme that allows working households to rent a home at 20% below the open market rent (Intermediate rent). This can provide you with the opportunity to save for a deposit to go on and purchase your home in the future.
With Rent to Buy, you can live in a high-quality, new build home at Intermediate Rent (approximately 80% of the open market rent) for a minimum of five years. During that time, you will save towards a deposit and have the option to buy your home.
All homes on this development have now been sold or have been allocated.
Ulverston Town Hall
South Lakes Housing has undertaken the conversion and refurbishment of the historic Ulverston Town Hall into 17 affordable properties.
The 17 affordable properties consisted of:
- 11— 1 Bed Apartments
- 6— 2 Bed Apartments
This innovative project breathed new life into a historic and much-loved building in the centre of Ulverston which had previously been underused and difficult to maintain. The impressive outcome demonstrates South Lakes Housing’s commitment to positively investing in communities across South Lakeland and beyond.
The new and converted homes have been built by South Lakes Housing’s contractor Leck and offer high standards of energy efficiency due to the levels of insulation and the installation of air source heat pumps which will help keep fuel bills more affordable for residents and is in line with South Lakes Housing’s commitment of Greening its homes. The 1 and 2 bedroom apartments also offer good space standards and internal storage.
Some of the original features of this historic civic building have been preserved including the wooden sash windows which have been fitted with secondary glazing to reduce any heat loss, the ceiling in the previous council chamber has been preserved with the installation of a secondary ceiling and the two original wooden front entrance doors have been retained and updated with weatherproofing strips to reduce possible draught.
Parkside Road, Kendal
South Lakes Housing has redeveloped a former garage site into an affordable housing scheme.
The 5 properties consist of:
- 2 — 3 Bed Houses for shared ownership
- 3 x 3 Bed Houses for rent
All properties include features such as off-road parking, garden space, family bathroom and downstairs cloakroom.
All Shared Ownership properties for this development have now been allocated.
South Lakes Housing has received funding from Homes England for this development.
Jubilee Close, Kirkby Lonsdale
The 2015 Jubilee Close development in Kirkby Lonsdale was South Lakes Housings first new build affordable housing scheme. The development of 10 homes was opened by local MP Tim Farron.
The 10 affordable properties consist of:
- 2— 2 Bed Bungalows
- 6— 2 Bed Houses
- 2— 3 Bed Houses
The Jubilee Close development is a high specification, state-of-the-art housing development. It meets the Code 4 standards for energy efficiency and incorporates many efficiency measures including solar PV. The homes have also been built in keeping with the local environment, including external render, stonework and slate roofs.
The development was opened by South Lakes MP Tim Farron.
Dowkers Lane, Kendal
As part of the wider Waterside Regeneration which redeveloped an estate in the heart of Kendal town centre. The development included the redevelopment of a former garages site on Dowkers Lane to build 14 new affordable homes. The 14 affordable properties consist of:
- 6— 2 Bed Houses
- 4— 3 Bed Houses
- 4— 2 Bed Apartments
The design includes roof-top gardens constructed over car port areas which provide residents with a fantastic vista of Kendal Castle and the Fells beyond. The homes were also built with traditional materials including Lakeland stone which was recycled from the demolished parts of the estate.
