Warm Homes Update

To support our commitment to providing quality homes to South Lakes Housing residents, we are investing £3.9 million during 2026/27 to improve the energy efficiency of our homes. This investment will make homes warmer and more comfortable, lower energy bills, reduce carbon emissions, and help tackle fuel poverty, while also supporting local employment.

This includes:

  • Installing loft and wall insulation
  • Improving ventilation
  • Fitting solar panels where suitable

Our aim is for all homes to achieve an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of C or above by 2030.

Investment in new homes

Our new development and redevelopment schemes in Grange-over-Sands, Lancaster and Arnside are making good progress, providing affordable energy-efficient homes for our local community.

Yewbarrow Lodge Redevelopment

Yewbarrow Lodge Redevelopment Update

Great to welcome Homes England to our Yewbarrow site in Grange-over-Sands, with Highall Development making strong headway on site.  Good progress is being made, and we’re grateful for the funding support which is helping deliver much-needed affordable homes in the local area.  The area for Plots 1–7 is really starting to take shape (see photo below), and preparations are underway for the next key stage — altering the road access to enable work to begin on the apartment block.

Looking ahead, we’re on track for completions in Spring 2027.

More updates to follow as works continue.

Nelson Street - Lancaster

Nelson Street is Underway!

It’s great to see works begin on our Nelson Street development in Lancaster.

Delivered in partnership with Lancaster City Council and Tyson Construction, and supported by Homes England, this development will create 39 affordable homes for the community of Lancaster.

The scheme will deliver 39 new homes, including 32 apartments for social rent and 7 houses for shared ownership. We’re excited to be partnering with Tyson Construction as our principal contractor who are a great, local SME.

We’re looking forward to sharing the journey over the coming months.

Our Briery Bank Consultation Event at Arnside

As part of Rural Housing Week, we invited local people to come and talk to us about the proposed affordable housing development at Briery Bank in Arnside.

We were pleased to welcome 73 people to the community consultation event. It was a valuable opportunity to listen, answer questions and hear what matters most to people living in and around the village.

As a rural housing provider, we know how important it is to work with communities when planning new homes. Affordable housing can help local people stay close to family, work and support networks, while helping rural communities remain strong and sustainable.

Thank you to everyone who came along and shared their views. Your feedback will help shape the plans as the project develops, and we’ll continue to keep residents and the wider community updated as work progresses.
