Autumn 2025

Investment in new homes

During 2024/25, SLH invested £5.2M delivering 26 new high-quality energy-efficient homes in Kendal, Natland, Kirkby-in-Furness and Austwick to buy and rent.

In 2025/2026 we are aiming to deliver 39 new affordable homes across our operating area, with a mix of 17 shared ownership and 19 affordable rent properties. To date to 12 of these new properties have been handed over.

£10m Nelson Street housing development given the go-ahead in Lancaster’s Canal Quarter

We are delighted to share that full planning permission has been granted for the Nelson Street development in Lancaster. This flagship affordable housing project marks the first phase of regeneration within Lancaster City Council’s Canal Quarter Masterplan and builds on the success of the Lune Walk development in Halton.

The scheme will deliver 39 high quality affordable homes on the former Nelson Street car park site, creating a new community that reconnects the city centre with the canal.

The homes include 32 for rent and 7 shared ownership properties available to buy, meeting a clearly identified housing need.

Designed to be energy efficient, the homes will exceed current environmental standards, helping to reduce energy use and running costs for residents.

The scheme also opens up public access to the canal, introducing new landscaped areas that promote wellbeing, biodiversity and sustainable travel.

The project is being delivered in partnership between South Lakes Housing and Tyson Construction, working closely with Lancaster City Council.

The partnership reflects a shared ambition to provide more affordable, sustainable homes for local people and to support the wider regeneration of the Canal Quarter.
