New Hall Park Playground Officially Opens
As this year’s Rural Housing Week begins, we are shining a spotlight on the opening of a new community Playground at Hall Park in Kendal.
Residents, families and community partners recently came together to celebrate the official opening of the brand new playground at Hall Park, marking the completion of a major investment in local play provision. The project has transformed the space into a more accessible, inclusive and enjoyable area for children and families to enjoy for years to come.
Funded by Westmorland and Furness Council, the project began with consultation at South Lakes Housing’s summer roadshow, where local residents and children were invited to share their ideas for the future of the playground. Young people played a key role in shaping the design, telling us what equipment and features they wanted to see included in the new space. South Lakes Housing then worked closely with the Council throughout the procurement process to help bring the community’s vision to life.
The completed playground includes a bespoke play unit, new swings, educational play features, improved seating areas and linking pathways, alongside a range of exciting and inclusive equipment designed to encourage active play, social interaction and imaginative adventures.
To mark the completion of the project, South Lakes Housing and Westmorland and Furness Council hosted a community opening event. Residents of all ages attended alongside local councillor Ali Jama and representatives from the local primary school. With sunshine, ice cream and plenty of excitement, children were quick to test out the new equipment!
The positive response from residents has already demonstrated the value of the investment, with families making the most of the new facilities and older residents commenting on how wonderful it is to see children playing outdoors and enjoying the area once again.

This project forms part of a wider programme of playground improvements across Westmorland and Furness, as outlined in the Council’s Play Strategy. The aim is to create play spaces that are accessible, inclusive, challenging and fun for all children, ensuring that every community has opportunities for high quality outdoor play.
The new Hall Park playground is now open and ready to be enjoyed by local families throughout the year!
