Repairs at South Lakes Housing

Electrical Safety

As your landlord, it is our legal duty to carry out an electrical safety inspection every 5 years by a qualified electrician. This is to ensure the condition of electrical installations (wiring, cabling and plugs) in your home are safe and well maintained.

Unsafe electrical installations can lead to an increased risk of fire and electric shocks.

Frequently asked questions

Who will carry out my electrical safety inspection?

Our Contractor RPS HomeServe+ will carry out the inspection on our behalf.

How will I know when my electrical safety inspection is due?

RPS HomeServe+ will write to you to arrange a suitable appointment to carry out the inspection.

If the appointment you have been provided isn’t convenient, call RPS HomeServe+ on 0800 0236277 or 01524 734350 between 8am and 5pm to arrange an alternative appointment. Alternatively, you can contact South Lakes Housing direct on 0300 303 8540.

How long will it take to complete the inspection?

Electrical safety inspections take between 1 and 3 hours to complete, depending on the size of your home. RPS HomeServe+ will check all electrics are safe within your home.

We will conduct a visual inspection of the electrics checking the consumer unit (fuse box), fixtures and fittings (light fittings and sockets), wiring and cables and rectify any faults identified.  We will also test smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are in working order.

There may be occasions where there is specialist parts required or more time required for remedial works. If this happens, we will arrange an appointment within 5 working days to complete these.
