Asbestos

Asbestos was commonly used in many industries and buildings until it was banned in the UK in 1999.

However, while asbestos continues to be safely removed, much of this material is still in place.

Asbestos was widely used and examples typically found in buildings include floor coverings such as vinyl floor tiles, decorative coatings such as “Artex”, cement roofs, flues, ceiling tiles and external soffits.

Frequently asked questions

How is SLH keeping me safe?

We survey our properties to check for the presence of asbestos and record this information to monitor asbestos and manage it safely. We also carry out asbestos surveys of communal areas in our properties, and we inspect these on an annual basis.

If we are carrying out improvement works to your home or a repair that may disturb asbestos, we may carry out an asbestos survey before work begins.

If asbestos is found in your home and we are likely to disturb these materials during the work we are undertaking, we will discuss with you how this will be managed to allow work to proceed safely.

Should I worry about asbestos in my home?

No, asbestos is not hazardous unless it is disturbed.
