GET INVOLVED - TENANT PARTICIPATION
Why does SLH want to work with tenants?
We believe it is vital that we listen to the views of our
tenants and plan services accordingly. After all, tenants are our
customers, and by working together we hope to provide a better
service to you, now and in the future.
WAYS TO BE INVOLVED
SLH wants to enable as many council tenants and leaseholders as
possible to get involved in influencing decisions about our
services and therefore we have provided lots of different ways in
which you can have your say.
Tenant Involvement Club (TIC)
Any Council tenant or leaseholder who is willing to give their
views on the services they receive is invited to become a member of
the TIC. Members select from a 'menu' of involvement options,
some of which are outlined below.
Mystery Shoppers and Tenant Inspectors
Any Council tenant or leaseholder who is willing to become a
mystery shopper or inspector to test services from a customer
perspective
Service Improvement Groups (SIG)
Any tenant or leaseholder can be involved in a SIG to examine a
subject or aspect of service with a range of people.
Area Discussion Groups
These are available to all tenants and leaseholders to provide
an opportunity to discuss key local issues with SLH and
SLDC.
Annual Tenant and Leaseholder Conference
This is an open event to involve council tenants and
leaseholders in looking at proposed changes or developments in
policies and services and longer term planning.
Tenant Representatives to SLDC Overview and Scrutiny
Committees
The Tenants' Committee nominate tenants from its membership to
sit as formal representatives on the Council's Overview and
Scrutiny Committees. The Committees monitor and review
Council performance.
Village/estate/street/block 'voices'
Any council tenant or leaseholder willing to represent the views
of people in their locality can act as a contact person where no
local resident association exists.
Youth meetings and youth forums
Aimed primarily at under 18 year olds Youth forums help SLH find
out young persons views in order to improve services and facilities
for young people.
Tenants training and awareness
SLH provides free tenants training events which are open
to all SLH tenants. Some training and awareness events are
also open to Residents Associations.
Why? If tenants want to be more involved in helping
to make decisions about their housing, they need to know more about
a wide range of issues.
Events staged in the past have dealt with issues such as:
running a residents association; tackling anti-social behaviour;
and allocation of housing.
