Award for South Lakes Housing
South Lakes Housing has won a Bronze Award from Cumbria
Business Energy Network, following an auditing and inspection
process. The award is for recognising our responsibility to
manage the impact of our activities and services on the
environment. The impacts include use of electricity, water, paper,
office consumables and travelling costs. A policy to promote good
environmental pratices such as re-using, recovering or recycling
materials where practicable is in the process of being
developed.
In our effort to be awarded silver, we have introduced
measures which will hopefully reduce our impact on the
environment.
They include displaying posters about energy usage, placing
stickers on switches to encourage staff to 'switch off' if not
needed and the replacement of some spot lights with strip
lights.
We have taken advantage of United Utilities 'save-a-flush'
device. The introduction of a water heater, which uses less
electricity than a kettle. A shredder has been purchased to
dispose of confidential waste, which also can benefit the staff in
terms of reducing identity theft, they can use it for personal
papers.
