Downsizing Incentive Scheme
The Downsizing Incentive Scheme is limited to
tenants who move to a smaller SLH property.
This scheme is a combination of cash
assistance and practical assistance from SLH to help applicants who
qualify for the scheme to prepare for the move to their new home,
to assist with the organisation of house contents removals and the
issues relating to setting up a new home.
This will be a voluntary scheme,
designed to provide an incentive for those tenants who wish to use
it and no one will be forced to move out of their home. In order to
apply, interested applicants must make an appointment to see a
housing officer from their area. Where appropriate, housing
officers may also identify and approach potential applicants who
are considered suitable for the Downsizing Incentive Scheme to
discuss the potential of this opportunity and how they could
benefit from it.
The downsizing incentive scheme will run for a
period of three month to pilot the scheme. Thereafter, it
will then be reviewed and a report will be sent to the Board.
It is proposed to offer £500 for each bedroom released, plus £500
towards removal costs and up to half a days assistance from the
Handyperson at each end. The following table shows the total
amounts payable.

Tenants' Committee publish report on SLH
During October and November 2011, tenants took part in a secret ballot about the Council’s proposal to transfer the ownership and management of homes to SLH. Two thirds of tenants voted and 84.5% of tenants voted in support of the change.
