Who we are

South Lakes Housing (SLH) is an independent, not for profit charitable Registered Provider of social housing which South Lakeland District Council (SLDC) helped set up.

SLH is the main provider of affordable rented housing in South Lakeland, Cumbria which covers 600 square miles including the towns of Kendal, Windermere, Grange-over-Sands and Ulverston. SLH also provides affordable homes in parts of the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales National Parks.

SLH took over the ownership of 3,155 former council homes in March 2012 after tenants voted overwhelmingly for the change. SLH has managed housing within the district since 2004.

The organisation is run by a voluntary Board of Management made up of 4 tenants, 4 council nominees and 4 independent people. All tenants are able to become members and take an active role in the running of SLH.

SLH is part of the wider South Lakeland family, working with local partner organisations as part of the One South Lakeland initiative. The partnership focuses on locality working, local area partnerships, community safety, housing, community participation, older people, children and young people.
