South Lakes Housing is the Arms Length Management Organisation (ALMO) set up by South Lakeland District Council from April 2004 following an emphatic 88% 'yes' vote in a tenant ballot. South Lakes Housing secured access to £21 million of extra funding to upgrade homes to the 'Decent Homes' standard.  The Decent Homes programme will be completed by 2010.

South Lakes Housing now manages a full range of management and maintenance services for over 3,500 tenants and leaseholders, and employing approximately 130 staff.  The government's Audit Commission Inspectors awarded South Lakes Housing a 'good' 2 star rating with excellent prospects in its inspection in June  2008.
